TELEGRAPH - EXPERT RATING 2024
Old Whyly is a beautiful Grade II-listed Georgian manor house built in 1760, although as Sarah points out, the blackened beams and mullion windows in the country kitchen suggest medieval beginnings. Sarah brought up her young family here, which brings a familial warmth to the house. The rooms have high ceilings and oversized windows and are decorated in a rather modern palette of pale greens, big pinks and vanilla creams, the lightness tempered only by polished dark wood furnishings, heavy oil paintings and covetable antiques at every turn.
Travel Writer - 31 May 2024
There are four guestrooms, two of which have small en-suite bathrooms. The other two have access to private bathrooms, one with a modern free-standing bath with views of the garden. All rooms are tastefully decorated; think Farrow and Ball tones, aesthetic wall coverings and antique furnishings, it’s all very Country Life.
The largest room has a polished bureau and a dressing table with antique vanity accessories (a pretty handheld mirror and hairbrush). Proper tea and coffee-making facilities, jars of homemade biscuits and smart toiletries are a nice touch.
Sarah is a charming and attentive host. From around May, guests are welcome to use the heated outdoor pool, which has a pretty wisteria-clad pool house. There’s also a tennis court. Enjoy a home-baked afternoon tea on the lawn or a pre-dinner tipple in front of the roaring log fire in the drawing room. On a warm summer evening, guests can choose to dine under the fragrant rose-entwined pergola on the terrace.
